Volunteer at our After School/Summer Program

What are the responsibilities of our volunteers?

As an intern/volunteer you will be assisting in a grade level class, providing additional support to the lead teacher and TA on staff. There are about 25 students in each class, you will be placed in one of the 6 classes and; help supervise students, tutor students during homework hour, interact with students during their enrichment activity, and overall support the lead teacher and TA.

Where do you volunteer?

Our after school and summer program is located inside IV School. (see map)

When can you volunteer?

Our after school program is open from 3:00-6:00 Mon.-Fri., except Thursdays from 2:00-6:00.
During the summer time, the program is open from 7:30-5:30 daily Mon.-Fri.

How do you apply?

Our volunteers are cleared through one of our collaborative partners called Partners In Education.
You will need to sign up through them first and request to be assigned to volunteer at our site.

Although this process requires a few more steps, the benefits of doing this are great!
    - Partners in Education will pay for the cost of your TB and Live Scan clearance which are required to volunteer.
    - You will be able to volunteer at any site within the Partners in Education network without needing to re-do the clearance process each time.

Below are the steps you’ll need to take in order to get started.
1. Register at: https://partnersined.sbceo.org/requests/volunteer.php
2. Towards the end of the form, make sure you add Isla Vista Youth Projects as a group affiliation and enter the current year.
3. Once you submit the form, you will receive an email prompting you to schedule a phone call with a volunteer manager. You must complete this phone call before you can begin the screening process. Either Marley, or a Partners in Education team member will contact you during your scheduled phone call.

At that time, they will provide you with paperwork and more information.  Please have your driver’s license available.
4. Negative TB test:
  • If you have had a TB test taken in the past, Partners in Education will accept those results if they were read within the last 4 years
  • If you use Gaucho health insurance, you can schedule a TB skin test for no additional cost to you.
  • You may be a candidate for the TB Risk Assessment (as opposed to the skin test) as proof of absence of TB. Please review the documents and look into all of your options to see which is best for you.
5. Live Scan:
  • Partners in Education will send you to Lori’s Mobile Notary Services to get your fingerprints taken. You must bring the forms sent to you by Partners in Education as well as a photo ID.
  • No appointment necessary.
