School Readiness Initiative
The School Readiness Initiative is funded through the State First 5 Commission administered locally through the First 5 Commission of Santa Barbara County. The initiative provides a Family Advocate who focuses specifically on services to children who will enter kindergarten in the following year. Our Advocate provides resource & referral, health support, parent education and parent-child workshops.
Through our collaboration with UCSB, pre- kindergarten children are provided with enrichment activities while their parents are enrolled in morning ESL classes. A support group for Informal Care Providers reaches additional children who are not enrolled in preschool. The School Readiness Initiative Director helps coordinate and integrate kindergarten readiness by bringing kindergarten and preschool teachers to the same table, and helps facilitate a seamless, planned standards-based curriculum.
The School Readiness Initiative works closely with other preschools in the area as well as Goleta Union School District, kindergarten teachers and the principal at Isla Vista Elementary School to accomplish objectives. School Readiness Program Families can also participate in general support activities and education sponsored by the Family Resource Center.
